In general, teachers and student work together to co-create reasonable common expectations for their classes. If students are not, for whatever reason, able to meet these expectations teachers will meet with students individually to come up with a plan for moving forward in a positive way. Depending on the frequency or severity, teachers may also involve parents, the counsellor, and/or school administrators to assist in planning and support for the student.
Here is an example of a co-created expectations for Grade 8-12 students:

In school
Respect school environment
-Do not wreck/damage stuff
-Take off your outdoor shoes when entering the building
-Ask before taking things, return things to where they belong
-Put garbage in its place, clean up after yourself
-Respect other people’s property/space, for example: lockers
In class
Attendance
-Show up on time, ready to learn
-Absences should be excused by parents/guardians
Phones
-Follow each individual teacher’s guidance on phone use
-Leave phones in class when using the washroom
-Check in with teachers beforehand if you need to use your phone
Education
-Complete your class work in a reasonable amount of time
-Pay attention- engage in learning, do not sleep or put head down on table
-Follow instructions
-Try your best
-Ask questions
Leaving class
-Ask teacher before leaving class
-Only one student may leave class at a time
-Teacher may give time limit
On Bus
-Respect the bus environment, for example: pick up garbage, stay in seat while bus is moving
-Follow bus rules
-Respect Scott & follow his direction
