Yukon Graduation Requirements

Since September 2004, students entering Grade 10 must earn a total of at least 80 credits in Grades 10 to 12 consisting of 52 credits in required courses and 28 credits from electives.

Required Courses:
Students must earn a minimum of 48 credits from provincial courses:

English 11 or Communications 11 (4 credits)
English 12 or Communications 12 (4 credits)
Language Arts 10 (4 credits) Socials 10 (4 credits) 
Social Studies 11 or Canadian Civics 11 or B.C. First Nations 12 (4 credits)
A Mathematics 10 course (4 credits) 
A Mathematics 11 or 12 course (4 credits)
Science 10 (4 credits) 
A science 11 or 12 course (4 credits)
Fine Arts or Applied Skills 10,11 or 12 (4 credits) 
Applied Skills 11 (2 credits)
Planning 10 (4 credits) 
Physical Education 10 (4 credits)
Graduation Transition Plan (4 credits)

Note: Students must complete 30 hours of work experience or community service as part of their Graduation Transition Plan (total of 4 credits). A minimum of 16 credits at the Grade 12 level as well as the G.T.P. credits must be attained.

Elective Courses:
Students must earn a minimum of 28 credits. Students select courses of varying credit value to support their career plans (eg. apprenticeship, vocational, technical, university, college, entry to the workplace).

**Students are required to write five Graduation Program Exams. These are Language Arts 10, Science 10, Mathematics 10 (all worth 20%), Socials 11 or 12 (worth 20%) and a Grade 12 Language Arts exam (worth 40%). All other Grade 12 departmental exams are optional.
